The Grapes of Wrath-Book Talk

The Grapes of Wrath is really good, it follows the Joad family, mainly Tom Joad who just got out of jail for homicide. This books perspective is in third-person, but not an omniscient view, so you can't tell the character inner thoughts which is nice. The book follows the Joad family as they depart their family home in Oklahoma, where all the land has been bought by the banks, to go to California along with thousands of other family's in search of work. Along the way they face lots of challenges, including running out of money and people rejecting them. One note, there are a lot of inappropriate staements in this book. The ending few pages are really strange, like Really strange. I recommend this booki, just as long as you can stomach a few swearwords.

SOL-Dumb Doodles Edition!

Now when ever I am in a meeting or a group, if I have paper and a pencil I will most likely be doodling. I mostly doodle patterns or just scribble random stuff because I am terrible at drawing anything from my imagination. I don't know why I doodle, I guess it just helps me think and gives my hand something to do. So I ask a question, do you doodle, and if you do, what and why do you doodle?

The Grapes of Wrath-Two-Week Book Update!

The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck.

I haven't found much time for reading with the play and all but as I understand it so far, the story centers around the Joad family, who are moving west to California after the big banks kicked them off their land to grow cotton. The main character appears to be Tom Joad, who went to jail for killing a man, and got out on parole. he returns the his home to find everything changed, and his family getting ready to leave. I am still not sure of what events or challenges will befall the Joad family, but I think they will be very interesting.

Slice of Life- ALL CAPS EDITION BECAUSE WHY NOT ALSO being on stagecraft for opening night

Being on light on opening night of a stagecraft show is really nerve-wracking. Lights is one of the most noticeable things other than the acting. Lights set the scene and the mood, they let the audience see, so they are pretty important. so combine the knowledge that if you mess up, most people will know, with the fact that it is opening night of a play only fully rehearsed once, and you can see why I was a bit nervous.

Overall, the play went well enough with only a few mistakes on techs part, and I was pretty satisfied with how it went.

Polar Star-Book Talk

Polar Star
Martin Cruz Smith
Fiction/Murder Mystery

Polar Star is the sequel to Gorky Park, a book I have never read, and reading this book with out reading the first has not really harmed my enjoyment of this book. Polar Star follows Arkady Renko, a former Moscow investigator before some events caused him to lose his party membership and end up on the factory ship, the Polar Star, which is working in the Bearing Sea with some american vessels. All seems normal until one of the ships crew, Zina Patiashvili comes up in the days catch. The captain and crew seem content to write it off as a suicide, despite obvious evidence of foul play. Arkady is thrust into some -dare I say- Fishy situations where he discovers evidence of some larger plot behind all of this. This book is quite adult in both language and situations described. I do recommend this book, if you think you are ready.

Making a plan to build a computer-Slice of Life

Over the break I decided to build a computer. I am not really sure why, I had toyed with the idea for a while, but it always seemed out of reach. I looked at magazines, looked online and made my own judgements. I made a list, then re-made it, then checked price, then rinse an repeat. After a while I made a final list and sent it out to my immediate family as a *suggestion* for christmas gifts. Right after Christmas, I found a website, into which you could put in the pieces and it would tell you if there was a problem. I put in all my pieces and discovered that the power supply would not have enough wattage to support my computer. I looked around and discovered a more powerful version for less because it was on sale!

Recently I got the motherboard, case, power supply, and CPU. I just need a few more pieces before I can actually put everything in! Yay!
Not quite my computer...Yet

A Wrinkle in Time Graphic Novel Edition-Book Talk

A Wrinkle in Time-Graphic Novel
Written by Madeleine L'engle
Illustrated by Hope Larson

The book I read over break is a graphic novel adaption of the classing A Wrinkle in Time. This book does do an pretty good job of adapting the story. there were a few problems with the adaption, namely the ending felt very rushed, and sometimes the drawing were unintentionally hilarious. overall, I would recommend reading the original book first and then the graphic novel. I would say that anyone can read either the original or this version, because there is no real adult content.
